Jerk Chicken

 

Jerk chicken actually describes the predominantly popular method of preparing the chicken recipe. Jerk chicken is made by either seasoning the chicken using a jerk chicken seasoning, jerk chicken sauce or jerk chicken marinade either before, during or even after the chicken has been cooked. Jerk chicken can be prepared in three methods, either by baking, roasting or grilling. The major ingredients used in jerk chicken are onions, escallions, allspice or pimento and scotch bonnet pepper. The final ingredient when making jerk chicken is Red Stripe Beer. Even though the beer is now rarely used it still adds the major flavor when preparing the jerk chicken recipe.

The first step in preparing jerk chicken is to allow the chicken meat to thaw well. Then the next step is to slightly scar the chicken. After having done this you must use either the a jerk chicken seasoning, jerk chicken sauce or jerk chicken marinade to season the chicken. Then comes the real trick. You must now allow the chicken to marinate at least overnight. This will allow the seasoning to soak into the chicken to capture the real jerk chicken flavor. Once this is done then it is now up to you to decide how best to prepare the jerk chicken and which cooking technique to use. In this article we examine the various methods of preparing the jerk chicken recipe. The first we examine is the most popular, the grilling jerk chicken recipe.

Grilling jerk chicken involves first placing the coals and preheating the grill for at least 15 minutes. Next place the jerk chicken on the grill and brown on each side for at least 5 minutes. Then use the jerk chicken marinade and baste the jerk chicken intermittently to get the full taste. The most important aspect is to keep the grill closed. After grilling and basting the chicken for at least 20 minutes then you must spray the Red Stripe Beer all over the chicken and continue to grill for several times. This must be kept up for at least 10 to 20 minutes until the jerk chicken is done. To ensure that the jerk chicken is done you must taste one of the pieces of the chicken to ensure that the jerk chicken is cooked to the bone.

Baking the jerk chicken in an oven requires a little more patience and skill. When preparing the jerk chicken marinade instead of using water when making the sauce or rub you must use Red Stripe Beer. This means placing all ingredients in a blender and puree until the mix is smooth. Then scar the jerk chicken and marinate overnight. When removing preheat the oven at 375 Degrees for 15 minutes and place jerk chicken on a baking tin then bake for 10 minutes then begin basting with remaining marinade and then begin to poke the jerk chicken to let the marinate seep down into the jerk chicken. Once the chicken is dry and no juices seep out the remove and serve with the hot marinade as a sauce.
